We get a whole slew of clips from last week set to blaring rock music to show us just how dire the circumstances are.
And...we see Michael's still doing some serious thinking on the roof. As a helicopter flies overhead, he scrambles over to an airshaft and climbs on in.
Outside the National Guard arrives as Bellick and the Pope have a little discussion. Bellick wants to storm the place, but Pope insists on following protocol. They're interrupted by Abruzzi Thug who hollers from a window that they're holding Rookie Guard hostage. Abruzzi tells Abruzzi Thug to lie and say they also have the Doc. Pope is rather dismayed upon hearing this. He wants to know how the rioters got to Dr. Tancredi, but Bellick remains silent. Uh, Bellick-shouldn't you mention that keyring?
We catch up with Burly Inmate, leading Linc through the steam room. Linc, apparently suffering from some stupidity side-effect from his recent beat-down, asks, "Scofield's in here?" As an answer, Burly Inmate siezes poor Linc and starts to garrote him as Linc gargles us into the opening credits and commercials.
We return to Linc who manages to get away from Burly Inmate. Linc's looking a little worse for wear, with the blood pouring from his neck wound and all.
The rioters are busy rioting, though they're staying out of Michael's cell. Rookie Guard is busy with the "I didn't see anything" testimonial. Sucre prepares to head out through the back door, but Rookie Guard doesn't want to be left alone with T-Bag (don't blame him). Sucre says, "Sorry" and heads out.
Michael's taking his time with the rescuing, seeing as he now has a full season to get where he's going. He's all sweaty and slithering, slithering his way towards the Doc.
Nick and Veronica, who apparently make enough to pay for last minute first-class plane tickets, are on their way to D.C. As they revel in their comfy surroundings, they discuss...really boring stuff we already know.
The Doc's still stuck in the exam room while Michael continues his rescue attempt.
Outside, the governor makes his entrance, in a limo, no less. As he de-limos, GJH asks for an update on his daughter, but Pope doesn't have any news.
T-Bag's getting acquainted with Rookie Guard (not like that) as he reads the address off Rookie Guard's license. He also finds a pic of Rookie Guard's daughter. Abruzzi shows up, gets in T-Bag's face and reminds him they need Rookie Guard as leverage.
Back in Sickbay, Scrawny Non-friendly Sick Inmate awakes and they light phone books on fire to smoke out the Doc, thus providing cover for her escape. Anyway, they push a lit book through the hole in the glass. Doc hurries over to stomp out the fire and is grabbed by Big Non-friendly Sick Inmate, who proceeds to lick her cheek (eww!). She feels the same as she stabs him with her chunk of glass. Michael reaches down into the room and gets Doc's attention. "C'mon! Grab my hand!" Doc actually takes time to think about it as millions of viewers scream at their TV's, "Are you nuts? I'd go anywhere with him! Why are you even thinking about it!" The Doc reaches toward Michael and he hauls her into the crawl space in the ceiling. She's a little freaked out and Michael assures her he won't hurt her. They head out as Non-friendly Sick Inmates wonder where Doc went.
L.J.'s checking out the riot, courtesy of Fox News. His mom, Lisa, turns off the TV. "See honey, the magic box has no more scary images to show you. So there's no need to worry, everything's hunky-dory!" L.J. is miffed when Lisa tells him there's nothing they can do and please don't make a scene. Seems her main squeeze "Gets very uncomfortable with this thing." Nice. So they get into it, right in front of Main Squeeze, who also gets involved. There's some shoving and L.J. gets a smack on the head and is sent to his room.
And back to the steam room, where Burly Inmate's still on the hunt. Linc's neck is giving him trouble, as Burly Inmate whacks him with a pipe a couple of times. Linc does some manuevering and Burly Inmate winds up taking a fall, several feet down. Linc hurries down to his would-be killer and (unwisely) tries to wake him. He really wants to know who sent Burly Inmate after him. Burly Inmate can't say, as his mouth is filled with blood, plus he's probably got a traumatic brain injury going on. So Linc hightails it outta there.
Sucre's making progress on the wall. Abruzzi appears and Sucre gives him a briefing on the whole El Diablo's gonna help us bring down this wall thing. Gentleman, yes you now have a full season to break out, but now's not the time for chit-chat, you've still got a schedule to follow.
Michael and Doc are scurrying along the pipes, but Doc needs a break. Below, Non-friendly Sick Inmates are jabbing at the ceiling tiles with a mop. Doc asks Michael why he's there. He says he saw her on the monitor and knows the layout of the crawl space because he did a toxic mold removal job there for PI. Contrary to what the Pope's said, Michael's a very smooth liar. He asks Doc about the door to the visitation room and she responds that her access card should still work. They finally notice the moving tiles, so they become quiet and still. Big Non-friendly Sick Inmate lifts Scrawny Non-friendly Sick Inmate up into the crawl space. As he turns to face the stowaways, Michael boots him right in the face. Then he and Doc hustle.
Outside, GJH doesn't want to hear about Pope's negotiating, he wants his daughter out now! So he tells the National Guard captain to get ready to go in.
Thinking the coast is clear, Michael and Doc climb down, but Big Non-friendly Sick Inmate catches them. He makes a grab for Doc, but Michael gets him in a choke-hold. Scrawny Non-friendly Sick Inmate gets in on the action. Doc gives him some well-placed kicks to his recently stitched up leg and he screams like a girl (hah!). Michael manages to knock out Big Non-friendly Sick Inmate and he and the Doc beat it.
Sharpshooters are taking their places on the roof. Bellick approaches GJH and does some major sucking up, which the Pope notices.
Abruzzi and Sucre--drilling, drilling.
Doc finds the way to the visitation room is blocked by rioters, so Michael convinces her he knows another way.
Checking in with T-Bag, we see he's still taunting Rookie Guard as Abruzzi Thug, looking rather bored, keeps an eye on him.
The boys are done with the drilling, so Sucre gets to whacking (not like that) and the wall starts to crumble. Rejoice!
Michael and Doc get to an outside door, but Doc's reluctant to leave Michael. He says he'll head back to his cell and stay out of the way. It's here where Doc points out the Big Red Dot (courtesy of a sharpshooter's rifle) on Michael's chest. She insists she can't leave, not now that they have a full season to play out the sexual tension-or maybe she says once she leaves, they'll shoot him. Michael, who seems relatively calm in the face of impending death, tells Doc he'll hit the floor once she's out the door. As rioters come running into the room, Michael pushes Doc out the door and hits the floor, just as a bullet hits the inmate who was coming up behind him. Michael commences slithering across the floor as the room is peppered with bullets.
Nick and Veronica are waiting in a parking garage, of all places-seriously, haven't they learned anything? Nick's PI friend arrives and gives them the phone number from where the anonymous call came. Seems it was made from a pay phone located near the Federal Energy Commission and former regional headquarters of Eco-Field, Steadman's company. The phone rings and Veronica, obviously never having seen Phone Booth, answers it. The Voice knows her name and asks if Linc's worth it. Nick then gets on the phone and the Voice informs him that they're both dead.
At Fox River, rioters are loitering around, doing nothing but making a huge mess which will take forever to clean up. Linc pushes his way through the crowd, bellowing Michael's name. He gets to Michael's cell and sees Rookie Guard and T-Bag. Linc tosses T-Bag up against a wall (honestly, Linc could easily snap skinny T-Bag in half). T-Bag swears he didn't touch Michael and he's now a member of the Great Escapees. Sucre and Abruzzi return and Linc grabs Sucre and hauls him out of the cell. He roughs Sucre up a little and when Sucre says he doesn't know where Michael is, Linc heads back into the melee.
Michael returns to GenPop just in time to hear De-Rioters (riot batons at the ready) outside the door issue warnings for the inmates to return to their cells. Michael turns and there's Linc. The two share a lengthy hug, Michael even has some tears in his eyes. They trade "Are you okay's" then head back upstairs to Michael's cell.
Outside, Bellick and Pope notice Doc and Bellick crudely remarks, "She's walking, that's a good sign." Dude, the woman narrowly escaped being gang-raped. As someone who's seen what violent criminal can do, you'd think he wouldn't make jokes about this subject. Anyhoo, Pope: "Better not let your new pal, GJH, hear you say that." Bellick does a little fast talkin' in an attempt to appear less like an ass, needless to say, he fails. Pope gets all authoritative and gives Bellick a smack-down.
Doc sees her dad and throws her arms around him, choking back tears. GJH loses the "aww" points he just earned, by immediately starting a rant about her choice of employment. Man, there's a time and place for everything. Tact, ever heard of it?
Inside De-Rioters are rushing about. Michael and Linc make it back to the cell where Sucre gives them an update on the wall. Michael tells everyone to clear out. T-Bag's excited, he figures that he can kill Rookie Guard now that the riot's over. Michael gets all sexily hostile and tells T-Bag, no way is he going to kill Rookie Guard. Linc pushes T-Bag aside, grabs Rookie Guard and gets him out of the cell. Both Linc and Abruzzi warn him to keep his mouth shut. Why would Abruzzi hesitate to kill him, he's in the Mob! Michael hollers at T-Bag to "Get out!" and T-Bag complies. Abruzzi tells T-Bag, say it with me, to "Fuhget about it." Abruzzi heads back to his own cell. T-Bag worms his way through the crowd, finds Rookie Guard, stabs him several times and tosses him over the railing, which Michael witnesses.
Westmoreland happens by the fallen body, looks up and spies T-Bag.
Looking appropriately horrified, Michael backs into his cell. (Hey, I just noticed there's a No Smoking sign above his door-details, details). T-Bag wanders over and tells Michael, "One for the team." Both Michael and Sucre are rendered speechless.
Outside, Doc's perusing a list of the dead and injured and is relieved that Michael's name isn't on it. She then stops a passing gentleman, looking quite crisp in his tie and shirt even though it's sweltering. Crisp Gentleman says it's nice to see her safe and sound. She thanks him then asks why his department would assign a PI detail to clean up toxic mold. "Huh, with the what?" So she clarifies: the toxic mold in the A Wing crawl space. Last week they said she was in B Wing, but I digress. Crisp Gentleman says they'd never assign inmates to do that. He leaves a very confused Doc.
Lainattua:
T-Bag (after killing the CO): One for the team.
Gov. Tancredi: Just cut the crap, Warden, and tell me where my daughter is!
Warden Pope: That's the governor. Whatever happens, don't say anything.
T-Bag: You making the rules now, ese?
Lincoln: And the pedophile thinks he's in!
